| Teledyne ML9832 Carbon Monoxide Analyzer
The Teledyne ML9832 Carbon Monoxide (CO) analyzer is a
non-dispersive infrared (IR)gas correlation spectroscopy to provide accurate, stable and
reliable measurements of CO in typical combustion effluent monitoring applications. The
Teledyne ML9832 covers the CO range from 0-200 ppm to0-3000 ppm. This instrument is typically
used in conventional extractive (dry sample gas) systems for combustion control and
emission monitoring applications. The Teledyne ML9832 shares the features common to the
Teledyne ML9800 family of analyzers.
The Teledyne ML9832 analyzer measures the absorption of infrared
radiation (IR) within a folded path measurement cell. Broadband infrared radiation is
directed through a rotating gas filter wheel where one cell contains CO and the other cell
contains N2. When the IR radiation passes through the CO half of the wheel, all
wavelengths at which CO can absorb are completely removed from the radiation, leaving
those wavelengths that are unaffected by CO to create a reference beam.
When IR radiation passes through the nitrogen half of the wheel, CO-specific
wavelengths are not removed from the radiation and a measure beam, is created
which will be attenuated by any of the CO sample. An additional optical filter selects the
CO absorption band of interest. The rotation of the gas filter wheel thereby provides the
advantages of a dual channel measurement system using a single channel analyzer.
The alternating beam is passed through a multi pass absorption
cell (White cell) containing the gas sample to be measured. Since both
the reference and measure channel measurements have the same
source, detector and optical path only the amount of CO in the sample cell can effect the
difference in intensity between the two beams. By taking the ratio of these two
measurements the resultant Teledyne ML9832 output is very insensitive to interferent gases,
fluctuations in the IR source, vibration and accumulation of dust on the optics.
